
Dr. Robert Nesbitt, Jr., LCSW
Dr. Robert Nesbitt, Jr. a Bronx, NY native, is a holistic psychotherapist - Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), founder of The Dover Counseling Center, LLC in New Haven, CT. He is a poet, video storyteller, and sound healer whose work bridges science, spirit, and soul transformation. As a host of The R.E.A.L. Roots & Resilience Podcast and founder of Brainwaves Meditation on YouTube, he invites listeners to explore the intersections of mental health, ancestry, and healing—guiding them through journeys of mindfulness, self-discovery, and spiritual awakening.

With a career spanning over two decades in clinical social work, leadership, and education, Dr. Nesbitt has dedicated his life to helping others heal from trauma and reclaim their emotional and spiritual wholeness. He integrates traditional psychotherapy with mindfulness, chakra balancing, sound therapy, and poetic reflection, creating sacred spaces for transformation that honor both science and spirituality.

Dr. Nesbitt earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Long Island University, his Master’s in Social Work from New York University, and his Doctorate in Social Work from Simmons University, where he also delivered a poetic commencement address centered on intersectionality, resilience, and empowerment. His doctoral research, Brainwaves of Faith, explores the stigma of mental health care within religious communities—particularly in the African American church—and advocates for the integration of faith and psychotherapy as complementary paths to healing.

As a poet, Dr. Nesbitt writes with purpose and soul, using art as activism to challenge oppression, celebrate intersectionality, and dismantle stigma. His poetry speaks to the resilience of the human spirit, reminding readers and listeners that healing is both revolutionary and deeply personal. His poetry reflects his belief that we are all sacred beings capable of transformation, restoration, and love.

Beyond his clinical and creative work, Dr. Nesbitt serves as Director of Capital Planning, Development, & Innovation at The New York Foundling, where he leads strategic initiatives in residential and developmental services. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Capella University, mentoring bachelor level and graduate social work students to become compassionate, culturally responsive practitioners. Through his private practice, The Dover Counseling Center, he provides psychotherapy rooted in mindfulness, evidence-based interventions, and spiritual awareness.
